Please report bugs and feature requests to: Carsten@CCSchmidt.de How does it work and what does it do? Multiple Interface Watcher (MIW) is a graph utility that shows the utilisation of up to 20 different network interfaces. The interfaces are defined in a file which is read by MIW. The data is requested from the devices using SNMP and percentage values are calculated and shown in the graphs. Generate a file with a list of devices that you want to monitor. Each line in that file must follow the format given in the example file ' example_devices.txt': ;;;;. Do not use more than 20 lines. Start MIW and open your device file. You will see that a number of graphs have changed their colour, they are now activated with your information. Click on 'Start polling' to start the monitoring. The Options There are two places to change options: either by clicking on 'Show more' which expands the GUI to show polling intervall and other options or you select Tools\Options from the menu to change graph behaviour. All of the options are self explanatory like 'stay on top' and polling intervall. If not, just try them out. Comments You can choose whether you want to define a 100 MBit full duplex line as a 100 or a 200 MBit bandwidth. Each case has its advantages and disadvantages: if you choose 100 MBit and you send large volumes of traffic in both directions you will find that you end up with utilizations greater than 100%. On the other hand, if you choose a bandwidth of 200 MBit and you send 100 Mbit in one direction an 2 MBit in return you will have a utilization of only 52% although your line is filled to the max in one direction. Therefore it is sometimes better to only show IN or OUT traffic on full duplex interfaces. Warnings - Zyxel router are known to have problems with SNMP monitoring. - I cannot guarantee that MIW or any other software by me will work with all the hardware. Some manufacturers do not adhere to the RFCs of SNMP and default MIB values. Therefore please TRY BEFORE YOU BUY. The software is only time-limited and has no restrictions in its functionality. Future features to be added: - encryption for the device information - automatic start using parameters - warning actions in case of threshold überschreitung - individual settings for the graphs Version history Version 1.1.0; April 2005 - complete new release using Delphi 2005 - doubled the monitored interfaces to 20 - added individual configuration of graphs - all options now in menu - major graphical improvements Version 1.0 January 2005 FCS 2 December 2004 FCS 1 October 2004
